Strategy for the Promotion of Passive Solar Housing Technology in Western Himalayas

Abstract

Himachal Pradesh is the first state in India to implement Solar passive housing technology on large scale. A policy decision was taken by the state Govt that all the govt & semi-govt buildings will be designed as per solar passive housing technology.The experience in implementing passive solar building programme in Himachal Pradesh, is presented.The monitoring of constructed Solar buildings shows comfortable living conditions in winters as well as energy saving.The long term strategy for continuous Research & Development, capacity building and technical manpower development for the successful propagation of the technology, is also discussed. The follow up action for the implementation of the technology is outlined for other countries.
